Site Engineering for Herman & Kittle Properties, Inc. Saxony Homes Project Hammond, IN

NIES Engineering assisted Herman & Kittle and the Hammond Housing Authority with their second development project at the Housing Authority's Columbia Center site. We worked hand-in-hand with the Hammond Housing Authority, the City of Hammond and the developer; Herman & Kittle Properties of Indianapolis within a tight time frame.

NIES provided a topographic survey of the site, a final plat of survey for the proposed Saxony Homes site and an Alta Survey for the consortium providing the financing for the development. We also continued master planning assistance for the entire Columbia Center site and represented Herman & Kittle in planning approval negotiations with the City. Planning permission was granted and the project moved ahead.

NIES then provided site engineering plans with underground stormwater detention, utility connections, new water main including a switch from private to public water supply, sidewalks including handicapped access and graded parking lots. Included in these plans were demolition drawings for existing buildings with site erosion control. We worked closely with the City's Planning Department to ensure that our plans adhered to all appropriate codes and ordinances.

Finally, NIES provided construction staking to assist the contractor during construction. Our ability to provide one-stop-shop services to the developer coupled with our familiarity with the Departments of the City of Hammond contributed to the smooth progress of the project that further improves this area of the City.
